About the Gurten

The Gurten is Bern’s Hausberg. Standing at an altitude of 858 metres, it towers over the city 300 metres below. It is a popular travel destination for both Bernese residents and tourists. At any time of the year, cultural events like the established Gurtenfestival or art exhibitions are held here. In addition to restaurants, playgrounds for children and leisure activities like tobogganing, the Gurten is home to an observatory that is open to the public and can be visited for free on Tuesday nights. The surrounding parks are spacious and offer a lot of room to stroll and relax.

The Pavillon is one of several event locations on the Gurten. This completely windowed room offers an exquisite culinary experience and a panoramic view over the city of Bern.

Travel

By public transport

The Gurten Pavillon can be easily reached by public transport. From the main train station, you can take the tram no. 9 in the direction of “Wabern”, until stop “Gurtenbahn”. From there, you can reach the valley station of the Gurtenbahn within a few steps. The Gurtenbahn is a funicular that runs every 15 minutes and takes you directly to the Gurten Pavillon at the top of the mountain.

On foot

The Gurten can be summitted on foot as well. From the valley station, it is a 40-60 minutes hike. The path is indicated by signs. Please note that about 300 meters of altitude need to be traversed and that the trail is quite steep in certain places.
